Become a Plana mentor
Your story is the most powerful thing you can give her.
Plana mentors are women who've been through an unplanned pregnancy and want to walk alongside another woman going through it. Not as an expert. Not as a counselor. As someone who gets it.
Why it matters
Why women become Plana mentors.
1. You know what she's going through
No training manual replaces lived experience. The moment you say "I've been there" everything shifts for her. She's not alone.
2. Your story has a second chapter
Many Plana mentors say the experience gave their own difficult journey new meaning. Helping someone else through it is one of the most powerful things you can do with what you've been through.
3. You set the terms
Mentoring is flexible. You choose your availability, your communication style, and how many women you support at once. Plana coordinates everything else.
Who can apply
You don't need to be an expert. Just honest.
We're not looking for perfect stories. We're looking for real ones.
You're a great fit if…
- You've personally experienced an unplanned pregnancy
- You're in a stable, healthy place emotionally and able to support others
- You can commit to at least 2–4 hours per month
- You're non-judgmental about the paths women consider
- You want to give back and believe in Plana's mission
- You're willing to complete Plana's onboarding and brief training
A few things to know…
- Mentors are not licensed counselors, Plana provides that separately
- Mentors don't need to advocate for any specific pregnancy outcome
- You don't need a professional background in healthcare or social work
- This is a volunteer role, but deeply rewarding
- All mentors complete a background check and Plana training
The process
How mentoring works in practice.
From application to your first match — here's what to expect.
1. Apply in 10 minutes
Tell us about yourself, your experience, and your availability. No essay required just honest answers.
2. Brief onboarding
A short 2-hour online training covers how to support women through Plana, what to say, and what to refer to your licensed team.
3. Get matched
Plana matches you with a woman based on her needs, your experience, and your availability. You'll have context before you say hello.
4. Show up as yourself
Meet up virtually or in-person. You set the pace. Our coordinator team supports you both throughout the journey.

"I experienced an unplanned pregnancy at age 19. I was terrified and didn't know what to do with myself, much less a baby. It would have made all the difference to have all the resources and information right at my fingertips."

"I was 23, alone, with my unplanned 3rd child and I was terrified. I was alone and I had no support from those around me. If I had support like Plana offers, my experience would have been so different."
